Our Story

We have been meeting at our present premises since 1958, the building was erected by Church members on land that had been given them.

The Church started around 1929 and previously they had met as a mission hall, then in two upper rooms in Half Moon Lane, then they moved to meet in a room above a fish shop on the High Street. A previous member is quoted as saying, 'The meetings were terrific, if you didn't get there early you didn't get a seat, when the power of the Lord came down on the meetings it was electric, it's a wonder sometimes the roof stayed on.'

After the room above the fish shop they met in a wooden Church on Carr Hill Road, but this was burnt down and they had to move back to the room in the High Street.

The stone used for the present building was purchased from a mansion in Old Leam Lane for £2 & 10 shillings and transported to the site. It cost £2000 to build, and was opened with great joy in 1958.
